Thoroughness In the Community
vs. incompleteness
Taking care of necessary details
Handle with Care
By Mary Andres Russell
We often apply Thoroughness to our tasks – thinking things through, preparing fully, and paying attention to the details. And rightly so — if we get the details right, great results will flow. What about applying Thoroughness to the most important aspect of our lives – our relationships? Do we pay attention to the details of our relationships?
Have you ever gone down a path with a friend, co-worker, or loved one that took years from which to recover? Maybe the relationship was never quite the same. It’s easy to make mistakes in relationships. When we are tired, angry, or lonely, we can be harsh. We can blame. We can drive our point of view. And sometimes, we can do great harm.
This month, try applying Thoroughness, not only to your work, but to your relationships. If you start down a path of conflict, slow down, move cautiously, and listen to the other person’s point of view. Think it through before you speak or act.
Instead of neglecting our relationships, use Thoroughness to strengthen them. What makes that person feel appreciated? How can you help them reach their goals? What do they need today?
This month, let’s work to bring excellence and strength, not only to our work, but to our relationships.
The Links below will take you to Resources you can use with the family or within community organizations
