Wisdom for Better Mental Health
Wisdom is applying what has been learned from experience. Wisdom helps students to understand the interconnectedness of things and to see the big picture. In the classroom, Wisdom can be used to improve mental health in several ways.
When students are taught how to think critically and weigh the pros and cons of different options, they are more likely to make choices that are in their best interests and develop better coping skills. This can help to reduce risky or inappropriate behavior. When students are taught how to manage their emotions and deal with stress by tapping into their Wisdom, they can better cope with the challenges of school and life. When students have the Wisdom to understand that challenges are a part of life, they are better able to build Resilience. They can learn to bounce back from setbacks and keep moving forward.
Wisdom teaches students to seek help and advice when necessary. This reinforces the importance of relationships. With this understanding, they can develop positive relationships with their peers, teachers, and family. They can learn to communicate effectively, resolve conflict peacefully, and build supportive relationships.
