World Kindness Day Nov. 13

Idea #1
The Character Council has a program called the Kinder Character Challenge. Every Friday, we email a challenge for a kind deed to participants. The timeframe for performing that deed is the following Sunday through Saturday, but we really don’t mind when you do it. If the challenge does not align with your interests, availability, or anything, you are free to modify it or pick something totally different. Once you have completed the challenge, we ask that you post it to social media (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) and tag the Character Council.

Idea #2
Create a calendar for the rest of this month all the way to the end of December. Have the family come up with ideas for kindness for every day until the end of the year. You can use the calendar to identify what you should be doing that day, or you can treat the whole calendar like a bingo card. Each person would have their own copy posted, and when they do any of the kind acts, they place a sticker or a checkmark in that block. They then have until the end of the year to see how many of the items they can do.

When the calendar period is over, process it with these or similar questions:

  • Was it fun to be kind?
  • Did you think of other kind acts during this time period?
  • Did you recognize when others were kind?
  • After this, do you think you will think about being kind more often?
