The Shepherd Teaches Us About Trustworthiness
Sheep need a shepherd to lead them and to keep them safe. A good shepherd is always alert to what can harm the sheep, so he can keep them safe. A bad shepherd will let harm come to the flock rather than work harder.
The image of Jesus as our Good Shepherd is quite fitting. He is our foundation and will always take care of us. When we get our fleece caught in the brambles, he will be there to help untangle us. If we get lost, he will come find us. If we fall, he will help pick us up. If a wolf comes to hurt us, he will protect us. A Good Shepherd will never leave his sheep just like God will never leave us.
