My Responsibili-Tree
Start by downloading the Worksheet for this activity below. Instruct each family member to write their faith responsibilities on each leaf. These can be different for each person. Some examples would be:
prayer before meals, at bedtime, or other times
attending worship services or faith-based classes
volunteering at church
dressing modestly
tithing, being generous or sharing
being careful with language
being willing to help others
living according to the 10 Commandments
reading the Bible or other spiritual writings
When each person is done, have them share what is on their tree. You can also have them identify which of these responsibilities is the hardest. You can make suggestions of how to improve or help them to think of some of their own.
After you finish the activity, process it with these or similar questions:
-
Was it hard to think of your faith activities in terms of responsibilities?
-
Does it make these activities seem more important to label them as responsibilities?
-
Can you look back over the last few years and see how your responsibilities have grown?
-
Can you look forward several years and see how your responsibilities will grow?
-
How much overlap is there between everyday responsibilities and faith responsibilities? Is doing your household chores related to your Christian duty?
