Knowing God is in Charge Creates Enthusiasm
Job 6:10
Then I would still have this consolation– my joy in unrelenting pain– that I had not denied the words of the Holy One.
Job was a man who lost everything but wife and life. (Children, home, livestock, servants, bankroll, everything). As Job navigated his way through incredible adversity, he finally got God’s clear, pristine message. What Job heard from God was what he needed to hear: “I am in charge. I know what I’m doing. My way is right. I am reigning lovingly over you.” Throughout these chapters, God addresses many of the other parts of His creation, until finally Job hears enough.
Job 42:1-2
Then Job replied to the LORD: [2] “I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.
God kept piling it on, until finally Job says, “I’ve got it. I see it! It’s clear . . . it’s clear. No purpose of Thine can be thwarted.” When God says it shall be done it will be done. God says it shall be done and His purpose shall not be thwarted.
The One who called the spaces into being, the One who put the clouds in place, the One who established the atmosphere in which we’re able to live, the One who separated the seas and the dry land, who gave you breath for your lungs and the ability to think, the One who placed you here, now, in time – for His purpose, and the One who with the snap of His divine finger will pull you from life into eternity – is in charge.
What was the result in Job’s life? Perspective, patience, joy, endurance; in a word &endash; enthusiasm. What might enthusiasm look like in my life this week?
Here are five “I will” principles to practice this week in order to incorporate the character trait of enthusiasm into your life (write these on a poster, board or overhead transparency).
- I will be an energy-giver.
- I will smile.
- I will treat every job as important.
- I will put my whole heart into what I do.
- I will not be discouraged by failure.
Closing #1: Let’s dialog about it with one another.
- Shift the group into smaller discussion groups of 3-4.
- Encourage groups to list ways in 2 minutes to exhibit enthusiasm in their lives this week. Ask one group member to compile a list of “Actions to be practiced”.
- Ask groups to share their findings with the whole group
Closing #2: Let’s close in silent prayer. Ask God:
- To forgive you for anything in your life displeasing to Him.
- To show you how to practice enthusiasm in your life.
- To give you attentiveness and strength to practice enthusiasm.
